Functional Dry Needling

Functional Dry Needling

Dry needling can bring lasting relief for a broad range of musculoskeletal and neuromuscular dysfunction. The skilled practitioner identifies the trigger points ("knots") or other involved tissues that may be referring pain to the painful area, and targets these problematic structures during treatment. The problem tissues cause dysfunctional patterns that can lead to secondary dysfunction such as tendonitis, osteoarthritis, decreased mobility, chronic pain, and a range of other disorders. The treatment involves advancing a small filament needle into the related muscles, causing a small twitch response, followed by a relaxing of the muscle. Electrical stimulation through the needle can also increase effectiveness of the treatment. This causes the problem area to "reboot" - a "control-alt-delete" for the problematic area! This then allows the treated area to work as it should. Many patients experience dramatic pain relief and improved function in just a few treatments, often with lasting relief!
